Nurse strike in UK

Nurses took strike action for a second time this year and we can expect more coming next year. The Royal College of Nurses says its members should have a 19% pay rise. They rejected a offer off 7,5% rise, which is small comparing to over 11% inflation. The strike mostly affect patients that don’t need urgent care and the routine care patients. But how much money earns average nurse in UK? The starting salary for a nurse is England is just over £27,000 a year, A nurse with four years' experience could earn close to £33,000 and specialist nurses can make up to £47,000. It can’t be argued that they deserve a rise. With that amount of work and years of training and practice they should earn more. They are essential to keep the citizens healthy and safe. source: https://www.bbc.com/news/health-63561305

Natural light can help you sleep

For the study researchers monitored 500 students and their sleep habits. The data show that students were getting about the same total amount of sleep each night every season, but during the winter months students fell asleep and woke up later. This happens because there is less daylight and it’s cloudy outside. On average, they went to sleep 35 minutes later than usual. According to researchers, students stayed up late because they didn’t get enough exposure to natural light. Other researchers found out that each additional hour of daytime light was linked to improved circadian rhythms. I think it’s true in my case and I can see this pattern in my everyday life. During winter moths I tend to stay up over a hour and a half more than usual but I still wake up at the usual time. source:https://www.healthline.com/health-news/exposure-to-natural-light-during-the-day-may-help-you-sleep-better

China potato problem

Government wanted to convince Chinese population that potatoes should be a staple of their everyday diet. Due to the fact that potatoes cultivation in China contributes 20% of the global production, but their potato consumption is below world average. Some scientist state that potato plantation can reduce emotion of green house gasses and they require less energy to maintain that rice or corn. This is important because countries feel pressure on the global food system because of climate change, covid pandemic and Russia’s invasion on the Ukraine. More countries should become sustainable and independent in face of economical crisis that we’re facing. I believe that the   information about the increased consumption of potatoes is intend to arouse internal demand and increase production, which will transfer into Chinese better economical results. What leads to China not only being the number one world potatoes planters but also the biggest potatoes consumer in world.   s...

Exterme weather conditions

For the past few day we could witness the floods that affected the huge part of the Balkan countries and Italy. Parts of Albania were particularly badly hit, with up to 400mm of rain falling in 12 hours causing the Drini River to burst its banks. Similar thing happened in Montenegro and the river Morača. Heavy rain and strong winds terrorized Spain and Majorca. A wind with a speed of 84mph was recorded in Majorca and over 10 incidents appeared, ranging from fallen trees to mountain rescues. The strong winds also caused damage to boats in Port de Soller and brought significant waves, with some reaching up to 5 metres in height. Meanwhile in parts of New York, Usa weather conditions turned milder for Thanksgiving week after a prolonged period of intense snowfall.  source: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/nov/25/weather-tracker-heavy-rain-and-severe-flooding-hit-the-balkans

Second spring in The UK?

This November is the hottest of all time, the average temperature is 2,2 degrees warmer than average Novembers from the past 30 years. Some plants that flower in October still flower due to the warm temperature and frequent rains. Chain of meteorological events this year affects the life cycle of our gardens, disrupting it when we wouldn’t normally expect it. The drought that appeared this summer is one of key factors to this Fennomen. Extreme heat made many flowers became dormant like they do during winter. Many meteorologist say that soon weather will calm down and return to normal. People blame the climate change for frequency and intercity of extreme weather events such as drouths and floods.  source: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-63754070

Pumpkin pollution – danger for environment

Pumpkins - symbol of Halloween or even Thanksgiving, who would expect that this autumn vegetable can be extremely dangerous to our climate? Their huge popularity also came with a huge pollution problem, every year millions pounds of pumpkins end up in land fields. When they decompose they emit methane gas, it warm the atmosphere faster than carbon dioxide that’s why it’s so dangerous. It’s sad because we can make so many things from them like bread, muffins, pies or even wine, not to mention that their seeds are edible. They can be used as food for wild animals like deer, moose or racoons. I think it’s sad to see how much food we waste. With foods like pumpkins it’s worse, people only buy them for decoration and they don’t reuse them. We should spread more awareness about this.  source:https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/article/pumpkin-pollution-is-a-problem-what-you-can-do

Does money buy happiness?

Money can improve quality of our life and our wellbeing. Our happiness increase when our salary doubles. But are the rich people happier than people that earn average salary? Many studies show that wealthy people tend to be more pessimistic and stingy. The richer you get the less empathetic you are, you simply lose the ability to relate to “poor” people problems. I personally think that money can increase chances of being happy, but simply being rich cannot guarantee our happiness. With money we can treat ourself to little pleasures that can give us temporary satisfaction, plus we don’t have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck. In our capitalistic society money is key factor to our survival, so I don’t believe there are people that don’t care about money or that it doesn’t buy our happiness. source: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/oct/28/how-much-money-makes-you-happy-we-ask-an-expert
